Images from Venice
Architecture, gondolas, and canals. I love Venice. Here are a few images from our last trip. The main entrance to St. Mark's Basilica. My favorite building in Venice - the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. A new sculpture was installed in the Grand Canal since we were last in Venice. It's called "Support". A return trip to the Arsenal at night. Dusk on the Grand Canal, taken from the Accademia Bridge. Sailing back into Venice, the view from our room on the 11th deck of

Burano - 5/19/17
When visiting Venice, make sure to plan a morning visiting the island of Burano. Burano is known for its lace, but for photographers the draw is the brightly colored buildings, cobblestone streets, and reflections in the canals. Get up early in the morning and catch an early boat to Burano - before the rest of the tourists arrive. You'll be treated to streets that are empty except for the local population going about their business. While I was busy looking at reflections

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth
Well, our cruise has almost come to an end. Sadly we must pack our bags tonight, as we'll be arriving in Venice tomorrow where we'll spend the night in Murano, and start our long trip home. It's with mixed emotions that I'm leaving Europe. We saw so many beautiful sights, and I'm going home with thousands of images, but I just had to share this one with you before I start processing them once I get home. We went to Krka National Park from our port in Split, Croatia today.

Venice - Friday, 5/19/17 - A Magical Day
After returning from Burano, we had a quick lunch and retired to the room for a siesta. I awoke late afternoon to a storm brewing over the city. The wind picked up and vendor paintings and parasols started flying around the waterfront. The light started peaking under the clouds so I grabbed my camera and ran outside to see what I could get. The light was magical, but little did I know that there was more to come. A slight mist that only lasted a few seconds filled the ai

Venice - Wednesday, 5/17/17
After traveling all night we arrived at our hotel- the Hotel Paganelli at about noon, but our room was not ready yet so we shared a delicious Margherita pizza at the hotel's cafe. Finally getting up to our room about 1:00 in the afternoon and settled in for a much needed nap. We awoke about 5:30 to some magical late afternoon light on the lagoon. We decided to explore a part of the city we've never been to before, so we turned left outside our hotel which brought us to the

Sometimes Your Favorite Shots Aren't Necessarily Your Best Shots
When we were in Alaska last year we had the incredible opportunity to stay at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge that's located on the edge of Lake Clark National Park. When you stay at the lodge they assign a guide to take you out every day in search of the bears. The bears in this area are so used to seeing humans every day that they don't see them as a threat. This allows you to get very close - heaven for a photographer. Unfortunately the 4 days we were there were very rainy.

My Favorite Workshop
I love going on photography workshops - love it! My vacation time is very precious to me, and I've found that it's the best way for me to visit new locations and get the best images I can. If you put yourself in the hands of a good workshop leader, they've already taken the time to scout locations, making sure you're in the right spot at the right time of day. No need to waste precious time doing that yourself, you get to concentrate on learning and shooting. My first work
