Burano - 5/19/17

When visiting Venice, make sure to plan a morning visiting the island of Burano. Burano is known for its lace, but for photographers the draw is the brightly colored buildings, cobblestone streets, and reflections in the canals. Get up early in the morning and catch an early boat to Burano - before the rest of the tourists arrive. You'll be treated to streets that are empty except for the local population going about their business.

While I was busy looking at reflections in the canal, Randy noticed this man repairing some fishing nets. I'm glad he pointed him out, because normally I try to avoid including people in my shots, but looking back through my images, this one seems to capture the overall atmosphere of the island.

I just love the windows on Burano. The shutters are normally painted a color contrasting with the house, and there are flowers everywhere. This one especially caught my eye - I liked the flowerpots with the little pink hearts that matched the color of the house, and the reflection of the building across the street in the window.

Here are some reflections from Burano.
